Link Commander (Standard Edition) - Bookmark managing tool
Bookmarking is an effective way to quickly access your favorite sites, but most web browsers don't offer good enough solutions to manage them. They are easy to loose, if you reinstall your browser, for example, and there is no way to verify if one of the stored links still works without needing to access it. Link Commander can provide you with bookmark managing features which most browsers can not. Your favorite links can be stored however you want, while making use of an explorer like window.
You won't loose too much time downloading the software. The installation kit is under 9 Mb large and it will launch a standard wizard with very familiar steps. There are no Internet related calibrations to be made or anything. Simply run the setup and everything will be ready in a few seconds.
The interface can be used like an explorer window and a web browser at the same time. It features a tree structure on the left side of the main window where you can create folders either by right clicking and making use of the context menu or by clicking a button from the toolbar. Adding new links is done exactly the same way and you can also move them around the tree by simply clicking and dragging.
The right side of the window contains the software's own web browser. Double clicking a stored link from the navigation pane or selecting one and clicking a button will immediately display the web page on Link Commander's incorporated browser. You can, of course, go to any other web page. The browser works quite well and you can use its toolbar to save new bookmarks. An interesting feature will show itself from the moment you first launch Link Commander. It will offer to import bookmarks from your installed browsers or from other places on your computer. The process is fast and it only requires you to click a few check boxes and Next buttons.
There are other functions you will find useful while using Link Commander. You can verify if a link still works without needing to open the web page. Simply select a link and click a button from the toolbar. The process will take a few seconds and an icon will be displayed next to the link, indicating if it still works or if it's broken. If you take a good look at the toolbar, you will find other tools like a link duplicate finder, a launch button for any browser you have installed, and more.
Pros:
There is quite a number of features you can find when using this software. The interface is easy to understand and you can organize your favorite links like you would in a normal explorer window.
Cons:
While running the program, an icon will be displayed in the upper left corner of the screen which will bring up the main interface. It would have been more useful if you could use it to bookmark something while navigating in a browser.
Managing your bookmarks is done a lot more easily with Link Commander. It is as easy as navigating a standard explorer window.
